Dear Friends,

Every Christmas I take the time to reflect on the past year and start looking forward to what the next one holds. And as I look back over the past 12 months, I am so thankful for what God has achieved through your support of LIRS!

Your gifts and prayers have seen over 10,000 refugees find new homes in the United States in 2013. Thanks be to God for how we have been allowed to be part of their stories of hope!

But beneath the large numbers, it’s the individual stories that most clearly show the impact of our work together. These stories highlight how hope is being rebuilt, one individual, one family at a time—refugees and immigrants escaping broken nations and broken pasts and who are being given a new home, a new life, and hope for their future.

Alhaji Fofana is one refugee who has experienced a fresh start in North Dakota with the support of LIRS and our network partner, Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota. There he’s found companionship and community. His words echo the change that many refugees experience…

“I’ve met some wonderful, special people, like my caseworker, for whom I will always be grateful. My caseworker’s friendship, understanding, and support have led to my success.”

Alhaji’s story shows how we are truly walking alongside those who arrive with nothing but the shirts on their back. And with love and understanding, we’re helping guide them into a new life.

This holiday, there are many more Alhajis who have just arrived in the United States and are settling into their new homes and reuniting with their families. And all of this is only made possible because of your faithful support and prayers. Thank you!

Now, as we look toward our 75th year, I am full of anticipation for all we are going to continue achieving together in this mission of welcome. Thank you for continuing to stand with LIRS, as we help vulnerable refugees find new hope and new life in the States.

May God bless you and your family this Christmas, just as you are blessing so many migrants and refugees with your friendship and support!

Yours in faith,

Linda Hartke
