Dear Friend,

The practice of trafficking children for the pleasure and profit of others is growing at an alarming rate. LIRS encounters trafficked children through our children’s services programs when they are referred to us for foster care placement. And we take on a key role in their recovery process by placing them with loving foster families.

Many trafficked children have no possibility of going home to their real families, and foster placement through LIRS is therefore vital. Foster care gives these children a new family, a new place to call home, and a new opportunity to be loved and to experience the childhood that traffickers attempted to destroy.

Ji’s story shows both the terrible tragedy of trafficking, and the work we do with trafficked children to give them a chance to be part of loving families again.

As you read through this edition of Rebuilding Hope, I hope you’ll be inspired by the story of Grace, Hiros, and Ahmed. These three young siblings have stuck together despite the odds as they’ve resettled in the United States, and their harrowing story speaks to the heart of what we strive to achieve at LIRS—helping families find new hope and a new start.

I hope you will also be encouraged by Rehema’s story of entrepreneurship. The American economy makes it difficult for refugees and migrants to access employment and to feel the pride and confidence that they’re giving back and providing for their families. But refugees like Rehema are still finding ways to earn a living, and in her case, she now has a vision for how she could develop her own full-fledged business in the future.

We are so grateful for friends like you who are making all these stories possible through your prayers and financial support. God bless you!

Yours in faith,

Linda Hartke
