Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act

LIRS supports the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2007 (TVPRA), H.R. 3887. If enacted, the bill would greatly aid in the prevention of child trafficking in the following important ways:

  • Help identify child trafficking victims
  • Prevent children in federal custody from being released to traffickers
  • Ensure that children in federal custody are placed in settings suitable for addressing
their needs and the violence, abuse, and other trauma they have experienced
  • Provide services to child trafficking survivors in federal custody

On October 31, 2007, LIRS submitted testimony to a U.S. House of Representatives Committee on the Judiciary hearing on the bill: “Combating Modern Slavery: Reauthorization of Anti-Trafficking Programs.” Click here to download the LIRS testimony.

On November 7, 2007, LIRS and 10 bishops of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America submitted a joint letter to the Judiciary Committee urging swift passage of the TVPRA. Click here to download the letter.
